Test results
The results are in, and Oldest is officially through with her year. We had her tested at the Kindergarten level, because if she were in a Waldorf school, this is where they would have her this year (the preference is to have children start first grade at age 7, or as I've heard it put "when they have seen 7 springs.") While she obtained incredibly high scores in all 4 categories on her test, what is interesting to me is just how much the complexities of our little girl are displayed. For example the grade equivalent for vocabulary was 4.9, or 4th grade, 9th month. Math was somewhere in 3rd grade, as were her other language scores.
On the other hand, Oldest's social and emotional maturity are pretty much those of a Kindergartner. I am just seeing her begin to look for more independence, just as an almost 7-year old should. I often wonder what life must look like through her eyes. Nothing escapes her notice, and most of what she sees and hears she can comprehend. It is humbling, this responsibility of protecting her from that which she can understand, and allowing her emotional 6-year old to be the driver. Childhood is so fleeting, we don't want it to end too soon.
